Llamas
embody the pack animal characteristics of a horse, the grazing characteristics
of a goat, and fiber output unequalled by the best sheep. Yet they
are a very unique animal with characteristics only they posess. Llamas
are more efficient at feed conversion than sheep. Llamas are members
of the camel family, and have shared a relationship with humans for
thousands of years. They tend to be gentle, social animals with strong
herd and protective insticts. They can generally be trained very easily.
A
llama can be a great addition to your family. They can be taught to
pull a cart or sleigh, and are fantastic pack animals. They are sure-footed
and can carry loads of over 100 pounds. Many are fairly calm and intelligent
and make great pets.
Llamas are social animals, a llama will bond with
a flock of sheep and being protective and curious by nature make excellent
guard animals, driving coyotes and stray dogs away from the herd.
